IMG3347 for websiteEach year the National Ecumenical Officers (NEOs) for England and for Wales host a training course for new Ecumenical Officers and facilitators. The course is for both County (CEOs) and Denominational Officers (DEOs), whatever their 'official' job titles, and is also helpful to others working ecumenically. The NEOs work with Jenny Bond (CTE, Training, Resourcing and Events).

The training course is a process with different components:

  • Denominational induction session

After appointment, DEOs will be invited to an induction session by their NEOs. These are denominational meetings. CEOs and those appointed ecumenically will be invited to an induction session with Jenny Bond. These sessions may take place at any time during the year and it is possible to attend more than one. (For example, someone might wish to repeat an induction session or a DEO in Wales may wish to attend an induction with Cytûn and also with their appropriate NEO.)

If you are a new Officer, please do not assume that CTE or the NEOs know about your appointment! Tell us please...

  • Visit an ecumenical situation

Before the new 24-hour residential (see below), participants should visit an ecumenical situation. This should be done in collaboration with the County Ecumenical Officer or the DEOs in a county. In 2022, because of Coronavirus restrictions, this requirement has changed. See the page about the current course.

  • Residential course

The 24-hour residential meeting is a key part of the training for Ecumenical Officers. In 2022 this will be an online course for which there is no charge.

  • Constitutions

Denominational Ecumenical Officers need to know how to process constitutions for Single Congregation LEPs and County Officers need to have an overview. We are working on the best way to deliver this help.

  • On-going events/training

Many of the National Ecumenical Officers offer annual meetings to their DEOs. Ensure they have your contact details and ask them for information. County Ecumenical Officers meet annually, usually in May or June, for an annual Consultation.

If you wish to discuss any of this, please contact Jenny Bond or one of the National Ecumenical Officers.
